Dr. Melissa Moore

Dear Parents,
It has come to my attention that the subject of bullying is on the minds of parents and has been the topic of much discussion on social media. I would like to assure you that the issue of bullying is a continual area of focus as we work to educate “the whole child.”

The whole child paradigm connotes our commitment to ensure that every student is healthy, safe, engaged, supported, and challenged.

We are committed to providing a school experience where all children are physically and emotionally safe. As such, prevention and intervention on all issues of bullying is a priority. Bullying is not a unique challenge specific to El Segundo but a nationwide challenge, not only in schools, but in society as a whole. Fortunately, El Segundo is city where parents and community members understand that it takes a village.

We are thankful to have strong parent involvement in ESUSD. As reported on the California Healthy Kids Survey, over 80% of our students perceive that parents are highly involved in our schools all the way through high school. We ask parents to work with us to address issues of bullying. If you know of a bullying concern, reach out and intervene immediately by contacting the school administrator or counselor. Our goal is to ensure the safety and well being of all students. Our administrative and counseling team genuinely cares and is here to help.

It is not a coincidence that the topic of mental health and emotional well-being is an area of focus for our leadership team and the wellness committee. We are currently working to develop a K-12 initiative to improve support for students at all levels. We value your input; please do not hesitate to reach out if you have ideas on how we can improve the overall wellness and connectedness of our students.

Attached below is a list of ESUSD activities to support social emotional learning.

With Gratitude,

Dr. Melissa Moore
Superintendent
