El Segundo PTAs will host the annual Honorary Service Awards celebration on May 10, 2022, in the ESHS Performing Arts Center, to recognize honorees from 2020-2022.
The El Segundo PTAs will host the annual Honorary Service Awards celebration on May 10, 2022, in the ESHS Performing Arts Center, located at 640 Main Street, El Segundo, CA. This year, the PTAs will honor and welcome on stage all of the Honorary Service Award recipients from 2020, 2021, and 2022, since we have not been able to gather for celebrations during the last two years. In addition, there will be two PTA volunteers honored with the Golden Oak Award, which is similar to a lifetime achievement award.
Each year the four school PTAs and the El Segundo Council PTA recognize individuals and/or organizations for outstanding service to students and youth in El Segundo, specifically looking to honor those who go above and beyond what is asked of them. The Honorary Service Awards were created by the National PTA. For the ESUSD community, the PTAs typically announce the recipients in late April at the El Segundo Council PTA’s Founder’s Day Tea. At this event, representatives from each school and ESUSD come together for one afternoon to celebrate our amazing volunteers.
The process begins each January when the school site PTAs begin the process of soliciting nominations from staff and parents. Once the nominations are received, then the real challenge begins – having to narrow down the selection of amazing nominees to just five per school. The committee reviews all nominations and deliberates until the final recipients are selected.
El Segundo PTAs would like to extend a big THANK YOU to all of its volunteers! Thousands of hours of volunteer time are given freely to each one of ESUSD’s school sites. Without this devotion to the students, teachers, staff, and schools, ESUSD would not be the robust and exceptional educational institution that it is. It is truly a team effort that comes together in support of support ESUSD students – one that is supported by parents, teachers, staff, administration, and community.
The categories that an awardee can be honored with are:
- The Honorary Service Award is given to recognize an individual or organization for outstanding service to children and youth in your community, going above and beyond what is asked of them.
- The Continuing Service Award is given to recognize an individual or organization for ongoing or long-time service to children and youth, providing support year after year.
- The Outstanding Teacher Award may be given to recognize a teacher for outstanding service to children and youth through PTA, school, or community.
- The Outstanding Administrator Award may be given to recognize an administrator for outstanding service to children and youth through PTA, school, or the community.
- The Very Special Person Award is given to recognize an individual or organization for their service to PTA.
