El Segundo High School increased its A-G completion rate from 79% to 83% in 2025, marking a major milestone for the district’s largest graduating class.

The A-G requirements represent the minimum college-preparatory coursework required for admission to California’s public universities. A district’s completion rate measures the percentage of students who meet the baseline requirements for eligibility for admission to either a UC or CSU campus.

For context, in California, the average A-G course completion rate is roughly 50%. With its stellar 83% completion rate, ESUSD is among the top-performing districts in the South Bay and across the state.

The El Segundo Unified School District takes pride in its focus on college readiness and equipping students for successful futures. Through its Graduate Profile, the district provides a clear roadmap for helping students build the essential skills needed for 21st century academic and career success.

“We are committed to ensuring that all students have the opportunity to succeed in high school and beyond,” said Superintendent Dr. Jason Johnson. “Moving forward, we will continue to make strides to ensure every single student has the resources, support, and opportunities they need to truly thrive in college and career.”

Earlier this year, the South Bay Readers’ Choice Awards recognized ESUSD as the South Bay’s Favorite School District. The district’s emphasis on college and career readiness played a key role in earning the community’s support for this award.

“I am incredibly proud of our students, teachers, and staff for their hard work,” said ESHS Principal Steve Gebhart. “This positive growth is a direct reflection of their consistent effort over many years, as well as an indicator of their talent and focus. I look forward to seeing what all our students will accomplish in their futures thanks to the strong foundation they have built during their time at ESHS.”
