Jim Garza

Jim Garza is a long time resident of El Segundo. He graduated from El Segundo High School in 1980. Jim earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in history from Loyola Marymount University. He holds a Master of Arts degree in Education with an emphasis in counseling, and he has Doctorate in Education from the University of Pennsylvania. In addition to his degrees, Jim holds a Single Subject Credential, a Multiple Subject Credential, a Pupil Personnel Services Credential, a Language Development Specialist Certificate and an Administrative Services Credential.


For the past 21 years Jim has served as a school administrator, 18 of those years as an administrator with El Segundo Unified School District, including principal of El Segundo High School. During Jim's tenure at ESHS the school was recognized as a three time "California Distinguished School", a first for the school. Jim also designed and implemented the Career Pathways, introducing Project Lead The Way (PLTW) to the high school for both engineering and biomedical sciences. He was also involved in all aspects of the various modernization projects at the high school. Jim is currently the Director of Secondary Education in the Conejo Valley Unified School District.


Jim and his wife Karen have two daughters Casey (ESHS Class of 1999), Hannah (ESHS Class of 2013), and one son, Joseph (ESHS Class of 2015).
