What a Difference a Year Makes…
ESUSD Significant Accomplishments 2015-2016
Center and Richmond Street Schools:
  • Recognized as Gold Ribbon Schools by California Department of Education
  • Implemented Project Lead the Way K – 12th District-wide
  • Continued implementation of Cognitive Guided Instruction in Mathematics enhanced by two instructional coaches to support teachers
  • Increased library services to five days per week
  • Offered art enrichment K-5th
El Segundo Middle School:
  • Successfully achieved a California Civic Learning Award of Merit in March 2016
  • Successfully earned a Golden Bell Award in December 2015
  • Deepened implementation of one-to- one iPad in Year 2
El Segundo High School:
  • Successfully recognized as an Apple Distinguished School for innovation, leadership and educational excellence from Apple in October 2015
  • Deepened implementation of one-to- one iPad initiative in Year 2
 ESUSD has award winning personnel:
  • Kathy Clemmer is one of five mathematics teacher in the entire state of California to be selected for a Presidential Award for Excellence in Teaching Mathematics and Science in California in November 2015
  • Dr. Jack Plotkin was selected as Association of California School Administrators Middle School Principal of the Year for Region 14 in April 2016
  • Shirley Taylor (Child Nutrition) and Maurine Jennings (Clerical) were named Los Angeles County Classified Employees of the Year in March 2016
ESUSD is proud of our students!
  • A group of El Segundo High School (ESHS) seniors showcased their engineering prowess at the SpaceX Hyperloop Pod Design Competition at Texas A&M University. ESHS is one of only three high school teams selected to compete alongside more than 120 university and private sector teams representing 20 countries
  • Members of the ESHS Zero Robotics Team were named the 2016 MIT Zero Robotics ISS Virtual Challenge champions. ESHS competed against other finalist teams from 19 countries across the U.S., Mexico, Europe, Russia, and Australia.
  • The El Segundo Middle School Bulldogs completed the CyberPatriot VIII Semi-Finals competition and ranked in the top 8% among competing middle school teams, placing 37th among 460 middle schools in the U.S. and Canada 
  • Three ESHS students earned All State Honor Band
  • An ESHS student earned one of ten winners of the 2016 CSU Sacramento LegiSchool Essay Contest. Thousands of students compete in this essay contest annually.
