ESHS Students ‘Can’t Stop the Beat’ in Spring Musical Production of Hairspray

The El Segundo High School Drama Department will present the Tony Award-winning Broadway musical Hairspray on April 21, 22, 23 at 7:00 p.m. and April 23 at 2:00 p.m. in the El Segundo Performing Arts Center, located at 640 Main Street, El Segundo, California, 90245.

The ESHS production of Hairspray will be directed by Jennifer Hedayat, teacher and head of the Drama Department, and choreographed by students John Allen, Tiffany Bobbs, and Jennifer Guy. The musical director is Angelica Roque, Performing Arts Center director, and the conductor is Steve Fox, ESHS band teacher. Costumes are by Sioux Falcone with hair and wigs by Jimie Morrissey. This production is an “open” school musical, which means that band, drama and choir students are encouraged to audition and participate, as well as athletes and other students whose schedules might not accommodate performing arts classes on a regular basis. More than 50 ESHS students are participating in this production as cast and crew. 
 
The El Segundo Education Foundation supports the ESHS Drama Department and funds its productions. The South Bay Music Association has generously donated funds to pay for professional musicians to play alongside the student musicians during this production.First produced on Broadway in 2002, Hairspray boasts music by Marc Shaiman, lyrics by Scott Wittman and Marc Shaiman, and book by Mark O'Donnell and Thomas Meehan. Viewers of all ages will be shimmying in their seats as they enjoy favorite songs such as “I Can Hear The Bells” and “You Can't Stop The Beat!”

Presale tickets may be purchased for $8 in the ASB office at ESHS during lunch time from 1:00-1:30 p.m. or after school from 2:30-3:30 p.m. Tickets will also be sold at the door prior to each performance for $10 general admission and $8 for students with ASB sticker.
