We are happy to happy to announce the 2015-2016 awardees for Classified Employee of the Year for the El Segundo Unified School District. Nominations were submitted for classified employees at school sites throughout the District in the categories of Para-educators, Office and Technical Employees, Child Nutrition, and Maintenance, Operations, and Facilities. We have many employees worthy of recognition at all sites in our District, and this year we are recognizing the following people for their outstanding service to our schools, staff, and students:
Child Nutrition: Shirley Taylor - Richmond Street Elementary School
"Ms. Shirley is an institution at Richmond Street School. She has worked at the Richmond Street Cafeteria for over sixteen years, and has worked in the school district for twenty years. Ms. Shirley is always the first employee on campus working tirelessly all day so that each and every child has a breakfast, snack and lunch. She is extremely hard working. She runs her kitchen with precision and order. Nothing is ever out of place. State inspections pass flawlessly."
Office and Technical: Maurine Jennings - Pupil Services
"There is a not a data report, task, chore, request, demand, legal case that Maurine will not rise up and meet and exceed expectations. Maurine has been undaunted by increasing challenges as she continually raises the bar to work faster, smarter and more efficiently. Maurine’s attention to detail and her ability to manage multiple concurrent tasks is beyond incredible. Maurine’s ability to analyze new tasks and then develop a plan of action is amazing. Everyone can breathe a sigh of relief when Maurine has taken on something knowing that the job will be remembered and done well. Maurine exceeds expectations. Maurine’s responsibilities range from highly sensitive legal cases, developing contracts, ordering violins for an orchestra and EVERYTHING in between."
Para-Educator: Joji Remsburg - Center Street School
"Joji Remsburg has been an incredibly dedicated employee of the El Segundo Unified School District for the last 15 years. She has served as both the Reading Lab Aide and Special Education Instructional Aide for Center Street school. Joji consistently goes above and beyond the requirements for her job and approaches each day with a smile. She collaborates with the Reading Specialist to provide direct, targeted instruction to students needing reading intervention support. In addition, she provides push-in support to teachers in grades K-5 and is willing to work with students in all academic areas. Joji is always willing to step in and support the Center Street team. Students respond to her kind and caring nature and seek her out on campus to share the latest book they've read or just share a hug. She is extremely organized, efficient, hard-working, and dedicated to putting her best effort forward each and every day."
Maintenance, Operations, & Facilities: Pedro Gonzalez - El Segundo High School
"Pedro has been an incredible asset to our staff for the past 17 years. In his many years of experience he has learned the many different areas of maintenance and operations making him invaluable to us as a head custodian. He is able to train any new staff member in the areas that they need training and is able to work with the many different staff members professionally and respectfully. "
