El Segundo Sees Administrative Changes

El Segundo, CA – July 11, 2013 – With the departure of Travis Long as the Assistant Principal from Richmond Street Elementary to accept a Principal position closer to his home, the search was on for the perfect fit for the open position of Assistant Principal to work with newly hired RSS Principal Liz Ramirez.

After an extensive interview process, the position was offered to Dr. Rebecca Godbey from Culver City Unified School District. Dr. Godbey obtained her B.S. in Elementary Education from Auburn University, her Masters in Reading Curriculum & Instruction from The University of Southern Mississippi, and her Doctorate in Educational Leadership from LMU. A 16-year veteran teacher with experience teaching kindergarten and grades 2, 3, and 4, Dr. Godbey also comes with deep experience as a teacher leader in the district.

During her 11 years at La Ballona Elementary in Culver City, Dr. Godbey received her doctorate while also being selected one of 8 prestigious Ryan Fellows nationwide. The Ryan Fellowship identifies high-performing teachers exhibiting maximum potential for school leadership, moving candidates through extensive training to ensure they have the skills and tools to become successful leaders. One of Godbey’s proudest accomplishments at La Ballona was the establishment of the Family Literacy program at in 2007, empowering hundreds of families to support and pursue their children’s pursuit of literacy.

Dr. Godbey is excited to begin a whole new chapter, and comes to Richmond Street with a personal vision for student success. “My goal is for students to improve not only their academic skills, but also their sense of self-confidence and social responsibility. I am especially excited to begin working with Ms. Ramirez on continuing Richmond Street's high standards of excellence, and I can’t wait to meet the faculty and staff to begin an exciting new school year.”

Ramirez shares Godbey’s excitement about the year ahead. “I am really looking forward to working with Dr. Godbey to grow our team together.”

In addition to the hiring of Dr. Godbey, Dave Lubs, the current Director of Human Resources & Facilities, has been promoted to the position of Assistant Superintendent, Human Resources & Facilities. Mr. Lubs has deep roots in the community and school district, beginning as a Social Studies teacher at El Segundo High School, serving as Assistant Principal of El Segundo Middle School for two and a half years, Principal for another year and a half, then making the leap to the District Office where he has served as Director for close to five years.
