Robin Funk
President
Robin Funk was elected to the Board of Education in November 2005 following many years of community service in El Segundo. Robin has served as Chairman of the Planning Commission, President of the Center Street School Site Council, President of the El Segundo Council of PTAs, President of El Segundo Middle School PTSA, President of the Parent Board for the ESUSD Preschool, and on the El Segundo Chamber of Commerce Education Committee. For many years she has been a Booster Leader, raising money for the performing arts programs at the middle school, high school, and the City Department of Recreation and Parks.

Following her election to the school board, Robin has remained an active community volunteer, as Treasurer of the R.O.A.D. (Reach Out Against Drugs) Task Force, member of the 33rd District PTA Legislation Committee, Vice President of Programs for El Segundo High School PTA, and leader of both the Performing Arts Boosters and Girl Scout Troop 250.

Robin moved to El Segundo from Wisconsin 25 years ago to pursue a career in the Aerospace Industry. She worked for 15 years in Rockwell International's Program Management and Cost and Schedule Master Planning departments, leaving the company following the birth of her second child. Since then Robin has dedicated her time and energy to her family and community. She and her husband, George, are raising their two children, Hayley, a student at Center Street School, and Chris Tiernan, a student at ESHS, to share their passion for community involvement.


 


 
Lisa Wilkin attended El Segundo schools and graduated from El Segundo High School in 1978. She attended UC Davis where she earned a Bachelor's degree in Child Development and a Master's degree in Education. She has been a classroom teacher of children from infants to kindergarten, a community college instructor, and has been a longtime advocate for children of all ages. Lisa has been a PTA officer at Richmond Street School, El Segundo Middle School and El Segundo High School. She served on the School Site Councils for the Middle School and High School.

In addition to her duties on the school board, Lisa is the Executive Director of the Child Development Consortium of Los Angeles, a community-based nonprofit organization, is the President of the Southern California Association for the Education of Young Children and membership chairperson for the California Child Development Administrator's Association. She also serves on the joint legislative committee of the Los Angeles Child Care Planning Committee and the Los Angeles County Child Care Policy Roundtable.

Lisa was elected to the school board in 2007 and resides in El Segundo with her husband, Don Cooper and their children, Zak and Kayla.

William J. Watkins, Ed.D. was elected to the Board of Education in November 2005, coming full circle on a distinguished professional and volunteer career in the El Segundo Unified School District. Bill worked in the ESUSD as a teacher and administrator from 1963 until he retired in 2001. He was the District's interim-superintendent in November 1997 when El Segundo voters passed Measure C, the first of two bond measures to modernize campus facilities. As superintendent Bill oversaw two of the District's modernization projects, reopening El Segundo Middle School in 1999 and Richmond Street Elementary School in 2000.

After retiring Bill continued his involvement in El Segundo schools, working to pass Measure E in November 2001 and serving on the bond's citizens' financial oversight committee. During that time, the district completed the restoration and modernization of Center Street Elementary School and El Segundo High School. Bill was elected to the board of the El Segundo Educational Foundation in 2001 and chaired its Community Giving Committee, including the Superintendent's Roundtable, until he resigned following his election to the school board. Bill earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from George Pepperdine College, a Master of Arts degree from California State University Dominguez Hills, and a Doctor of Education in Institutional Management from Pepperdine University Graduate School of Education and Psychology.

Bill and his wife Carol have lived in El Segundo since 1972. Their two children graduated from El Segundo High School, and two of their five grandchildren live in El Segundo and attend El Segundo schools.


Ann Coles
Member
Ann Coles comes to El Segundo after a youth spent growing up in the Midwest. She graduated from the University of Nebraska in 1984 before making her way west to find her dream job in hotel management for the Embassy Suites in El Segundo in 1988. After marrying her husband Glenn and giving birth to her second son, she retired from hotel management to concentrate on raising her children and volunteering in the community. She has been active in PTA, holding various offices at all school sites, involved with CASE since 1990, and is an active member of Rotary since 2003. She also contributes time and energy to her church activities. Ann was elected to the El Segundo School Board in November of 2005.


Chris Powell is a longtime El Segundo resident and former El Segundo High School student. He graduated in 1975 then moved on to Loyola Marymount where he received a degree in 1979. He currently works as CFO for a large commercial steel contractor and is an active CPA. He previously served as an ESUSD Board member from 1995 to 2007 with four terms as President. He has been named the El Segundo "Citizen of the Year," as well as earned the El Segundo Chamber "Dave Jones Education Award." Powell has served on numerous committees including the ESUSD Facilities Committee, the Chevron Community Advisory Panel, the El Segundo Education Foundation Advisory Committee and served as Treasurer of St. Michael's Episcopal Church. Chris and his wife Jeanie, also a graduate of El Segundo High School (1974) have raised three children, Jeff, Kenny and Amy, all who have attended El Segundo Schools. Amy is currently entering 4th grade at Center Street Elementary School.  Mr. Powell was appointed to the El Segundo School Board in 2010.
